This training video describes the microsurgical technique of performing an interpositional vein graft (IVG) using the rat femoral vessels of approximately 1 mm in diameter.A total of 8 interrupted sutures of 10-0 nylon will be placed on the circumference of the vessel to complete each anastomosis.Steps shown in this video include: planning the IVG, dissecting the femoral vessels, ligating and cauterizing Murphy's branches, harvesting the vein graft, preparing the vessel edges for anastomosis, placing interrupted stitches, and avoiding the back wall. Tips & tricks are described for a successful anastomosis. Patency test will be performed to assess the success of the anastomosis.IVG can be performed using the femoral vein, or using the epigastric vein which has a more similar size to the femoral artery. |
